Santa Tecla, El Salvador
Everything from watching the sunrise to the sunset and everything in between is what made this trip one of the best trips of my life. This trip was a mission trip with and I have always wanted to go on a mission trip my entire life, I never knew where I wanted to serve but after having such a true passion for Latinos and the Spanish culture, I knew I had to go to a Spanish speaking country. When I saw that my University was hosting a mission trip to both Haiti and El Salvador, I immediately signed up. I knew this was a opportunity of a lifetime. Not only did we serve but we spent a lot of our days after our work at the beach, these were the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. Even though these pictures look like I was on a vacation, I most defiantly lived the life of a local. This beach house we rented was only for one day but all the other days we were there we stayed in a locals house with no running water and limited electricity. I got to really see how it is to live in a country that the average person makes 10 dollars a day, and $170 a month. It was quite sad to me, everywhere we went I tried to give locals a dollar because just seeing their face light up over a dollar meant so much to me. One thing I really learned on this trip was the fact that these people take each day at a time and are living in the NOW, the importance of Living in the moment is vital to our happiness. Take each day and be grateful for what you have and show gratitude for everything you have. Through all the poverty they experience in San Miguel, its mind blowing to see people smiling and happy over the smallest things. Something I took away from this trip was to live my life on a minimal level because that was makes us the happiest, its the things money cannot buy.
